MISSION

The Young Women’s Leadership Schools (TYWLS) have been at the forefront of advancing girls’ education since 1996, beginning with the opening of TYWLS of East Harlem, the first all-girls public school to launch in the U.S. in three decades. Today, the network spans New York City and has inspired dozens of single-gender schools nationwide, with alumnae excelling as leaders and innovators. Notably, 18% of TYWLS graduates pursue STEM degrees, compared to 12% of women nationally, underscoring the network’s powerful impact in fields where women remain underrepresented.

GRANT PURPOSE & IMPACT

With Amplify Her Foundation’s support, this momentum will grow through dedicated funding for robotics at TYWLS of Astoria and TYWLS of the Bronx. Resources will provide teacher stipends, robotics kits, uniforms, essential components, and participation in NYC FIRST classes at Cornell Tech. These investments strengthen Astoria’s all-girls robotics team, Mechatronics, launched in 2017 in partnership with NYC First, and seed a brand-new Bronx team, giving students hands-on technical experience, leadership opportunities, and exposure to future STEM pathways.

By expanding access to robotics, the grant empowers young women to gain technical skills, leadership experience, and the confidence to envision themselves as future innovators in science and technology.
