“This grant not only reflects a deep appreciation for the space we are building for dialogue, learning, and collective action, but also strengthens our ability to invest in emerging leaders, advance critical research, and drive lasting change on behalf of women across New York City.”
— Sharon Sewell-Fairman, President & CEO, Women Creating Change
MISSION
Women Creating Changeis an inclusive community that partners with organizations and New York City women who have been systematically excluded from civic processes, to develop programs and influence policies that result in more equitable civic engagement.
GRANT PURPOSE & IMPACT
Amplify Her Foundation funding supports the work of Women Creating Change (WCC), a 110-year-old organization dedicated to advancing women’s civic and political participation in New York City. WCC empowers women and gender-expansive individuals, particularly those from underserved communities, to lead, raise their voices, and drive systemic change.
Through leadership development programs, civic education, and partnerships with elected officials, coalitions, and community leaders, WCC ensures that women’s lived experiences inform policy and strengthen democracy. Its Civic Matters Hub and community-based Civics Workshops provide accessible tools, resources, and action plans for meaningful engagement, while fostering collaborative spaces for women to organize and advocate.
WCC also produces groundbreaking research that identifies barriers and advances solutions. Its latest report, The Power of Participation: Women’s Voting and Civic Engagement in New York City, highlights both the high rates of women’s civic involvement and the systemic inequities - economic insecurity, caregiving burdens, structural barriers - that continue to limit full participation. The report offers a roadmap for action, calling for policy reforms that expand access, protect voting rights, and invest in leadership pipelines.
With Amplify Her’s support, WCC is expanding this work through special initiatives, including its inaugural State of NYC Women Conference, amplifying women’s voices and shaping the future of civic engagement.
