POWHER NEW YORK

In the last decade, New York has made strides advancing gender and racial equity, but to ensure continued forward movement and push back against conservative headwinds, PowHer New York must ramp up our efforts and inspire more women to take on the fight for inclusive gender justice. Thanks to a grant from Amplify Her Foundation, we will be able to expand and deploy our collaborative network, and we will launch a new initiative to build the next generation of gender activists.
— Beverly Neufeld, President, PowHer New York

MISSION

PowHer New York is an inclusive statewide network of 100+ gender and racial justice organizations committed to securing economic equality for all New York women. Their mission is to achieve women’s economic equity and well-being.

GRANT PURPOSE & IMPACT

Amplify Her Foundation funding will support PowHer New York’s general operating and programmatic goals in the coming year. In 2024, PowHerNY will continue its work to close the gender and racial wage gap in New York State, by expanding its advocacy efforts to address raising the minimum wage, creating a more just and caring economy, and advocating for low wage workers. Funding will also support the launch of their L.E.A.P. initiative, a new leadership development program to support the leadership pipeline of young women of color in the racial and gender justice movement in New York City. Through the L.E.A.P. initiative, PowHer New York will recruit and train an initial cohort of 25 young women of diverse backgrounds, between the ages of 21 and 36 years old. PowHer New York will build new opportunities for learning and leadership and expand on programs like Equal Pay Days and the Advocacy Bootcamp to ensure that a new generation takes the reins to advocate for economic equity. By expanding leadership development opportunities, PowHer New York will increase its impact and reach through a more “powherful” and diverse leadership group.

With support from the Amplify Her Foundation, PowHer New York will launch its first cohort of L.E.A.P. members, a group of 25 younger women of diverse backgrounds, 21-36 years old, and we will train 60 Partners on PowHerNY’s multi-issue shared agenda. PowHerNY will also continue its work to support key policy changes to potentially help hundreds of thousands of New York City women.
