GIRLS WHO INVEST

At Girls Who Invest, we are honored to be a recipient of Amplify Her Foundation’s inaugural grant to advance women and girls from underserved communities in NYC. With this generous support, we are partnering to close the access to opportunity gap, and to create pathways for upward mobility and the long-term retention and advancement of women in investment management.
— Katherine Jollon Colsher, President and CEO, Girls Who Invest

MISSION

Girls Who Invest is a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming the investment management industry by attracting and advancing women investors, change-makers, and leaders. GWI does this through tuition-free education programs for first and second-year college students. Once our scholars complete their program, GWI provides career advisory services, community building, and connections for our alumni at all stages in their careers, with a focus on the long-term professional development, retention, and advancement of our alumni. We believe, and studies show, that advancing diverse investors brings unique and previously excluded perspectives to the industry and leads to higher performance. To date, GWI has reached more than 2,500 young people in just eight years.

GRANT PURPOSE & IMPACT

Amplify Her Foundation funding will support Girls Who Invest’s programming over the next year. GWI’s flagship program is its Summer Intensive Program, a 4-week in-residence academic training led by top university professors with a guaranteed 7-week paid frontline investing internship at one of 120+ leading investment management firms during one’s sophomore year. GWI’s carefully selected cohort of 200+ promising scholars learn about core finance and investment concepts, including financial modeling and Bloomberg training, through rigorous classes and project work.

Parallel to the Summer Intensive Program, is GWI’s Online Intensive Program, a self-directed and asynchronous virtual program, that allows independent learners to master the fundamentals at their own pace through content provided by Wharton Online, CFA Investment Foundations, and Wall Street Prep.

Beyond GWI’s education programs, the organization also provides career development services, community and ongoing support to 2,500+ alumni in their professional journey, including securing a subsequent internship in their Junior year, and entering & advancing in the full-time workforce. Launched in 2022, GWI’s Alumni Career Institute provides professional development for alumni at all stages by focusing on career advisory and community building.

Lastly, Girls Who Invest provides wraparound services that help eliminate barriers to access to their tuition-free programs and throughout their internship experiences. Scholars are able to apply for financial assistance from GWI to help cover travel, short-term housing expenses, and business attire so they can feel confident and their best when they start their internship experiences.

With support from the Amplify Her Foundation, Girls Who Invest will continue to develop its Alumni Career Institute - a key expansion of their existing programs, providing support to an increasingly sizable community of 2,500+ alumnae, of which 500 currently live and/or work in New York City.
