COALITION AGAINST TRAFFICKING OF WOMEN

As New York City faces a sex trafficking crisis not seen in decades, met mostly with impunity and even indifference, Amplify Her stands out as an inspired force to achieve transformative change in the lives of women and girls, especially those who are violated and forgotten. We are honored to partner with Amplify Her in our collective quest to ensure that every woman and girl in our City and beyond will one day enjoy full equality.
— Taina Bien-Aimé, Executive Director, The Coalition Against Trafficking in Women

MISSION

The Coalition Against Trafficking in Women is one of the oldest international organizations working to end the trafficking and sexual exploitation of women and girls. They emphatically believe that every woman and girl has a fundamental right to live a life free from discrimination, sexual exploitation, and violence. Through an approach rooted in women’s rights and human rights principles, they advocate for strong laws and policies, raise public awareness and support survivor leadership.

GRANT PURPOSE & IMPACT

Amplify Her Foundation funding will support an expansion of CATW’s Survivor Leadership Program, to support survivor-led leadership campaigns to end the trafficking and sexual exploitation of women and girls, and to raise public awareness about these human rights violations in New York City for effective change.

The Survivor Leadership Program helps women and girl survivors transition into leadership and gain confidence in exploring the next phase of their lives. The Program offers opportunities to enter into leadership roles by training survivors in advocacy-related media, communications, research and writing. Their approach is to offer an overview of laws that address sex trafficking and sexual exploitation, highlight the scale of the crisis, and inspire them to create and implement campaigns designed for community engagement, media outreach, and advocacy for systemic change.

This expansion aims to offer a series of six interactive, specialized trainings in traditional and social media communications for sex trade survivors; a workshop where trainees utilize the skills honed during the trainings and produce Public Service Announcement-style (PSA) videos; and the development, production, and distribution of a ten episodes of an original survivor-hosted and produced podcast exploring topics related to survivors journeys from past exploitation to stepping into leadership positions in life and in professional endeavors. All components of these efforts will be led by sex trade survivors who are women of color, drawing from their lived experiences and years of advocacy work in the anti-trafficking space.

With support from the Amplify Her Foundation, the Coalition Against the Trafficking of Women’s expanded Survivor Leadership Program will support and amplify the voices of survivors in every decision-making room and in the media throughout the five boroughs of New York City.
