Bottomless Closet

We are thrilled to be a recipient of one of the inaugural grants from Amplify Her Foundation. We will use these funds to grow our capacity to serve even more women in need on their journeys into the workforce and onto the path to self-sufficiency. It takes a community of women to support one another to create real societal change. Given that this year the need for our services is up 80% over last year, the timing of this gift is truly going to make a difference in serving the women of NYC.
— Melissa Norden, Executive Director, Bottomless Closet

MISSION

Bottomless Closet was founded in 1999 by a number of New York City women in response to the 1996 Welfare Reform Act, with the goal to equip women on public assistance with the skills and tools they needed to be successful at their interviews and to succeed in their careers. Bottomless Closet pursues its mission through a range of high touch one-on-one interview and career readiness programs, and an expanded curriculum to support its clients to build skills in financial management, professional development and digital literacy.

GRANT PURPOSE & IMPACT

Amplify Her Foundation funding will support Bottomless Closet’s general operating and programmatic goals in the coming year. Funds will enable Bottomless Closet to provide an extensive range of interview and career readiness programs, both in-person and virtually.

Their comprehensive programs include their Pre-Interview Program, Post-Hire Program, and finally, their Upskilling at Home program.

Bottomless Closet's Pre-Interview Program offers one-on-one coaching with Career Coaches to prepare clients for job searches and interviews. Clients receive support with resume preparation, interview coaching, and are provided with two full professional outfits, including accessories and undergarments, if needed.

The Post-Hire Program is designed to support clients after securing employment. It provides additional coaching to help clients identify milestones and goals in their new roles, along with three additional sets of clothing to help build a professional wardrobe and other necessary support.

Lastly, their Upskill at Home program is a series of self-sufficiency workshops that cover essential areas such as financial management, professional development, digital literacy, and personal enrichment.

With support from the Amplify Her Foundation, Bottomless Closet will support 3,700 low-income women, across all five boroughs, through a range of high-touch interview and career readiness programs, offered in-person and virtually.
